Early 8N and all 2N and 9N use the same coil mounted directly on the front mount distributor. I had an 8N but never had to get into the distributor or change the coil. I sold it probably 20 years ago and didn't keep any manuals.

There surely are a lot more. Likely any of their regulars can answer your questions in correct and far more detail than you thought possible.

I suspect the procedure for working on the 9N distributor is the same as it was on my dad's 33 and 36 ford V-8s, and that was to ignore it until the car wouldn't run then take the distributor off and work on in on the bench.
