X-10 also used to offer a dialer to go with their panel which would dial the number(s) you program and give a recorded message. This saves the monthly cost of central station monitoring that alarm companies sell but needs to go to a neighbor rather than the local police who, in my area, have a normal 45 minute response time anyway. Electronics are the best answer. I also installed a driveway sensor as we have ½ mile of driveway and little likelihood of anybody walking in.
