Many years ago, i rented a garage to work on a car that i was getting ready for next summers racing! As there wasn"t any heat, a friend suggested getting an old pot-bellied stove, and using "drain oil" in it. the method of using oil was this. I hung a 5 gallon can on the wall, with a copper tubing down into the burning chamber. I installed a pet-cock in the line to control the flow, which only had to be a "drip-drip-drip" after the stove got hot! The oil dropped into a cast iron skillet placed on the burner. A rolled up ball of news paper got things going! The flue went out thru the window. (I replaced the glass with a piece of tin!) This worked great until-- One evening, while working on the engine of the car, and with my backside near the stove, i started feeling very hot in my nether regions! Looking around, i saw the entire outside of that stove ON FIRE!! I pulled out the tubing, and the fire subsided, but that method of heating got old fast! We decided to wait for warmer weather to work in there! So, watch out, don"t burn down the house, barn, garage, what ever! Keep warm! And i now use a torpedo heater to work on my tractors and mowers, in winter! by: Rustyj

I can think of a few common, ordinary sounds in my daily life, too.
