Both Volkswagen and Mercedes advise the addition of gasoline to the Diesel fuel in cold weather to prevent gelling. As best I remember, it was up to 25%. Lubing the injector pump is critical. I have not tried it, but in an emergency a gasoline-oil mix suitable for 2-cycle engines might be used in a Diesel. As far as gasoline causing damage to the engine cylinders, I simply do not believe it. Combustion starts when the fuel is injected near TDC. Diesel fuel will "knock" more than gasoline.
