A fellow I work with has a 98 2500 Chevy with the 7.4 motor. It is a little over 390,000 miles. Most of them highway miles, but atleast 50% of that pulling a tandem trailer. Never did anything to the 7.4 or the 4L80E transmission except oil and filter changes. The first 150,000 on mineral oil,and the rest on Mobil 1 synthetic. The engine still runs like new and uses no oil. It is starting to cold start a bit slower, might be time for some injector work. I have a 92 3500 with the 7.4 and 4L80E. bought it at 142,000 and now have 160 on it,engine runs great, another one on Mobil 1 synthetic oil. mine is a short trip farm pickup. Both are 4X4 and make a best of 13 mpg with 4.10 tow package axles.
