Well, with me, it all started out innocently enough. I grew up on a dairy farm, and my dad always had a soft spot for horses. So we always had 2 or three around, and what with the pasture for cows and hay for cows, it really didn't cost anything to have a couple of them around to clean up the excess. My sisters rode them often, I rode them occasionally, and everything was fine. When I got serious about the girl of my dreams, she batted those big eyelashes at me and said, "You know, I'd like to have a place in the country so I could have a horse". The only thing I heard was "place in the country", and I was so thrilled that she didn't want the bright lites that I completely spaced on the "horse" part. Fast forward 34 years. We've always lived in the country. She now has about a dozen horses, mostly Paso Finos, a few Walkers, and our daughter's jumping Thorobred. She's been scraping teeth all these years to support her horse habit; she trains every baby, and gets top money for them when she sells; she's always happy to have me help muck the stalls, but she'll do it by herself if need be; she's never complained about my tractors (there's about 7 right now, but 3 will sell when I get them fixed), and will hold the light when I'm working on them if need be. She's actually dissapointed when I come home from an auction with an empty trailer. Last but not least, the horses keep her active enough that she looks pretty darn good in a pair of Levi's, even at 56. All in all, its been a pretty good life, an it ain't over yet, thank goodness. I think the horses have been more of an asset than a liability, all things considered. There's a lot worse things in this world than having a happy wife.

12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
