Char Lynn steering system

Two years ago I put a Char Lynn steering unit on my 400 farmall. I have not been really happy with it but was a whole bunch better than nothing. The last two times I used it the pump got boiling hot. I took the filter out and replaced the fluid with Dextron 111. Any ideas would be helpful.
