I'm starting to look around for a 1990-1995 half ton, 2-wheel drive Suburban for commuting to work and hauling the kids around in. There are lots of them around here in good shape. However, I'm wondering if there are any specific years to avoid due to lousy transmissions, electrical problems, and the like. My wife has a 1990 right now with 200k. It's been a good vehicle, but the rear end had to be completely rebuilt last year for about $1700, and it's on its 2nd or 3rd tranny. If I get another Suburban, it won't be used for tractor hauling, and I don't need 4x4. The reason I'm in the market is because my nice '63 Riviera daily driver was rear-ended right before Christmas by a lady talking on her cell phone while driving her SUV. The car's been rear ended twice by drivers not paying attention, which seems to be the norm these days. The car got out of the body shop yesterday and looks great, but I'm ready to trade it in for a battleship since it's a virtual war zone out on the roads. Were there any Suburbans in that era that were lemons worth avoiding?

I think the furthest has been the Two Cylinder 7 in the Amana Colonies last year. Lots of stuff, lots of people. I've also atten
