About 1956 my dad planted 5 acres of corn and told my brother and me that it was going to be hand husked. I was about 11 so I didn't get as much grief as my older brother. I mostly drove the tractor and learned what Gee and Haw meant as Dad explained how it was easier with horses pulling the wagon.
Dad ended up doing most of it while my brother and I were in school. To compensate for the lack of horses, he bolted a 1x4 to the cluch lever on the D2 so he could just whack that to move.
