Yes, these engines, and others from almost all manufactures have sludge problems. Surprisingly the first ones that this problem started showing up in were Toyotas . Service intravels doesn't seem to have much effect on the problem. The engineers from the auto companies and the petroleum companies do a lot of testing and this still happens. The chrysler2.7 has issues beside this too. There are a lot of things that may contribute to the sludging as have for years but the latest I've seen about the problem in these small displacement high output engines is the wide temperature range inside the engines. And no, the best synthetic is not a guarantee that sludge won't build up. True, it's less likely. Major engine damage has shown up from this "new" sludging problem as soon as 25,000 miles.
