When my computer slows down it is almost always due to some spyware. I have downloaded Ad-aware and Spybot and run them after the computer seems to slow. I also run daily anyway. I frequently check for updates. Both are free downloads, however it is proper to make a donation of an amount you feel is correct. I also use grisoft AVG anti-virus software. It too is a free download. AVG is basically made for large businesses, however a portion of the product is for free use. After all, if home computers are less vulnerable so are corporate computers, i.e. to say less virus are spread, not less vulnerable.
No need to download if you don't keep it updated. When a new virus hits the Net a fix will be forthcoming, then for a few days updates seem to be necessary to take care of variations of the original. Zone Alarm firewall is another great download. Don't think I'll ever be without it again. Still bet it is spyware slowing things down. Let us know after you find a fix.
