If you surf the web a lot and haven't run some sort of anti-adware, you probably have some spyware running in the background. Ad-Aware and SpyBot are good anti-adware products and they're free. You can also press Control-Alt-Delete to bring up the Task Manager. Look under the Applications tab to see what programs are running and the Processes tab to see what processes are running. Also, the anti-virus programs only slow down available cpu cycles by 5 percent according to test data. And that 5 percent loss is well worth it with all the wackos out there on the internet. The info about running msconfig is good to see what programs are automatically loaded on starup. You can also check the start menu directory to see what files are loaded there. You could get into the registry to see if you can locate some hidden programs loading on startup but that can cause big problems if you mess up. Good luck.
