Pettibone-Multihoe and Dynahoe backhoes use Detroit 3-53s. Also some Vermeer trencher-backhoes. It's kind of a small engine. I haven't seen any dozers with them, but I'm sure they exist somewhere. Deere used a 2-53 in the 440 crawler, and Allis Chalmers used 2-71s,3-71s, 4-71s, 6-71s, and a few even bigger ones but none of the 53 series that I've seen. Used to be a lot of log skidders around with 3-53s e.g. Timberjack, Franklin, Pettibone, etc.
