Your post reminds me of an incident which was related to me some time ago. It supposedly was a transcript of an actual conversation of a U.S. naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland.

Canadian: Please divert your course 15 degrees South to avoid collision.

American: Recommended that YOU divert YOUR course 15 degrees North to avoid collision.

Canadian: Negative. YOU will have to divert YOUR course 15 degrees South to avoid a collision.

WE ARE ACCOMPIANED AND SUPPORTED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS OTHER SUPPORT VESSELS. AS CAPTAIN OF THIS SHIP, I DEMAND THAT YOU ALTER YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP AND THIS FLEET.

Canadian: This is a lighthouse.....Your Call.
