You didn't tell us much about the age or condition of your machine. I have read that syn molecularly attaches to metal providing a slick film. I believe this as I used to have a Ford p/u that had "lifter tick" after an oil change with parrafin based oil before the pressure came up (yes I filled up the filter prior to installation). Switched to syn and it never did it again even though I reduced the syn to none or 20% in later oil changes. Had diesel 3 cyl lawn tractor. In the winter it would make terrible piston skirt slapping noises till it warmed up. Same thing. 100% syn for a couple of changes and then none or some and no more noisy slap. The oil was Castrol or Mobil 1 full syn, 15w-40 or 50. So there is something to it and I don't do an oil change on anything without some in it and on air cooled engines, that's all I use. Change the oil once per season and it stays honey colored.......guess it's not breaking down. Mark
