Rip saws' teeth are swaged. Crosscut saws' teeth are set. It would be easier to take a rip saw (like on a sawmill) and turn it into a crosscut (buzz saw) than it would to go the other way. You can file alternate corners off swaged teeth to give them "set" but it would be quite the project to take teeth that have been set and swage them. I wouldn't want to do it.
