I remember getting away from Killeen, and disappearing out into the middle of nowhere from time to time, to just drink a quiet beer, or few with the buddies, and shoot a game or few of pool. Never one of Tanya Tucker's biggest fans, but she sure could sing "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" just about as good as I've ever heard. And as much as I'd hoped, I'm not sure anymore that I'll get to live out her "Texas When I Die", but I can still think about it. Every weekend, me and a couple of buddies used to head down to Galveston Island, because sure was a lot of college chickies from UTH sunning themselves, and we didn't mind it a bit. But, about half way between Killeen and Austin were these 4 bars that we'd pass every weekend. One was called The Rattlesnake Inn, and one Saturday, what the heck, we went in. Was no one within 20 miles but us and the bartender. Everything in there, except the jukebox and pool table was rattlesnake. Everything, including the lampshades. Was kind've dark in there, and the jukebox was Hank Sr. from one end to the other, nothin' but 45's of Hank that had been crackin' and poppin' for a good ten years before we got there. But, we stayed and drank beer and shot pool for hours until it was time to mosey on out into the dark, and home. When we got outside, the place next door was jam packed with cars and loud music was pouring out of the place. What the heck, we mosied on over there. When we went in, was the hottest college chickie bar in the whole danged world right there in the middle of nowhere, and we almost missed it too. Mmm, to be young and dumb enough to do that again, just for one day. Mark

Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
