Thanks for all the comments. The valve in question is the swing valve on a Ford 555B backhoe. It has this problem each time the lever is moved to change direction of the boom. Once the initial hard spot is overcome it moves freely in that direction even after letting off the lever. If you go in the other direction you encounter the hard spot again. I bought the hoe knowing of this problem. I was hoping for a linkage problem, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks!
