Joe, zane and the welder are probably right on. A DC motor and generator are basically the same thing. Put DC power in and it turns, turn it and it puts DC power out. It doesnt know what it is and the field current regulates the power. The cutout relay is supposed to close when the gen puts out voltage whewreby it gets connected to the battery, but when the tractor stops and theres no voltage it opens the cutout relay so the battery will not run down trhough the generator. If thats stuck, it will work as a generator but try and run the generator off the battery when you shut down. Get a new cut out relay and try it. John T in Indiana
