Early loaders were almost exclusively used for loading manure. A tricycle was much easier to use in a barn than a wide front. The manure forks were only about 40 inches wide and it would have been difficult to get the manure away from the walls with a wide front end. When I worked for Allis Chalmers we always used a D-17 demonstrator with a tricycle front end as a yard tractor. I had an IHC M with a midwest manure loader .It was a fine piece of equipment. Also had an AC Wd with Freeman loader also great. Now have two IHC with wide front and loaders but do not load manure. APPARENTLY YOU NEVER LOADED MANURE!
