Funniest excuse for lateness in 34 years as a teacher? One of my brighter, university-bound female students was two hours late for her final English exam. She came in, flustered, offering this note from the office. "Had to take her pig to the vet." This girl loved her livestock. During lambing season she was completely out of it worring about her flock. Her Vietnamese pot-bellied pig was a particular favourite, and on the day in question she suspected that her horse had kicked it or stepped on its leg. Turned out the pig was fine, just limping to get attention. One word of caution about pot-bellied pigs. They like to eat and they discover that humans are trainable. By the time this girl went off to university, her pet weighed 435 pounds.
