Given how cheap drives are, just buy a new one. Heck, they sell them at Sams and Costco these days, and probably wal-mart. Unless you store a bunch of digital video, just get an 80gig or so- should be about $60- and put it in. Now, if the drive that croaked is your boot drive, and the machine will not boot, that is another story- you will have a day of re-installing the OS and all apps. You shoudld keep all your data on a seperate drive from the boot drive. AND- buy a USB external drive that you back up your data to. Remember, it makes no sense to back up installed programs- only YOUR data. To re-install programs, you need the installer. Good luck. BTW, this is all radically simpler with a Macintosh. It has gotten to the point with Windows that you need to spend a significant amount of time protecting the doggone system from outside attacks and keeping that protection up to date. Not a problem with Mac...
