Having been on both ends of this I can see that happening. Come this time of year if you run short and can't get a hold of your hay guy or he tells you he is sold out...man, you'll pay what it takes. The last few years in Michigan hay gets pretty scarce in late winter and them what have it get pretty stingy about parting with it.
Guess that is why mine sells from the field before I get it home. Most horse people are a little scared of colic and would rather go long on a few bales short term than play with the feed.
My take on the situation anyway.
