#1 winter diesel is blended with various amounts of kerosene depending on the expected temp. Besides the taxes.In some places home heating fuel has a low cetane rating making cold starts in diesels difficuilt. For ease of inventory handling, home heating fuel is usualy treated to a cetane boost making it and diesel identical. There was for a while regular and low sulphur #1 & #2 depending if it was on road, off road or home heating fuel. Around here the one of the crime families owned some discount gas stations. As well as filtering the colour out of dyed fuel and selling it as taxed road fuel. They also had a PCB disposal company. A little PCB oil was blended with the diesel or gasoline to "dispose of the PCB's".
