I've been looking at two 2940's at a local dealer in my area. I'm looking for a larger tractor to do hay work mostly and I really wanted to be in the 80hp range. Ironically the both of the two 2940's I test drove at the dealership had problems with their frontends, power steering mostly. Both tractors are priced at $9800 base price. One has a loader which would bring the cost up to $11800 which seems to be about an average price for everything I've read and looked at. I think they sold new in the $30000 range. Both tractors also seemed to leak hydralic fluid from the rear hook ups. They looked like they had done a great deal of work in the past one was 13000hrs. the other was 15000hrs with a rebuild engine. We don't have much land, about 30 acers. I suspect after being serviced (seals, stearing fixed, etc.) either of these tractors will do fine for our place. As I'm new to JD equipment is there anything specific I should look at or consider before actually buying one of these tractors? The dealer has provided me with information regarding the previous owners which I intend to call and find out a bit more information. Both tractors were used as trade-ins.

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
