I gave my local Napa store a call and got hold of their really lousy partsman, this guy is incredible, I hate to think of the thousands of dollars he has lost them in sales over the years because I usually can't get parts if he's the guy behind the counter. I call him up and tell him what I want, and he tells me his computer doesn't show remanufactered clutch kits, and he asks if I got a part number off the national Napa site, and I said no, so I went back online and bought them back up and I hit redial, gave him the part number, he says "yup, $78.xx, I'd have to special order that", then he says, "thats way too cheap and somethings wrong, wow thats way too cheap", then he changes his tune and says "I can't get that, I won't even try to order it", he then says, "the part number is no good and doesn't show anything in my computer", I says "oh, the part number is no good eh?" (what kind of idiot does he think I am, I gave him the part number and he immediatly rattled off the exact price I was seeing on my computer screen when it was brought up on his end), he says "no, not here". It was on the National Napa site and he flat out refused to order it because he thought it was too cheap. I think he thought I might order a brand new clutch for $250, but with the poor 90 day guarantee, by far the worst I have seen so far as most come with a 1yr, and I even found one with a 5yr for $2 more than the Napa one, and with the way he refused to try to order the one I wanted, forget it, I'll take my buisness elsewhere.

I then went to advance auto as I had gone to their website and found one after clicking on their online parts cataloge, this brings up another window with www.partsamerica.com, ok, well I looked up clutches for my truck, and they have one for $252.xx with a 5yr warranty, and I sez, thats the one I want. So I went in my local advance auto and I tried to give the guy behind the counter the part number, but no he had to look it up himself and I had to tell him the year, make and model, engine size etc.., then found the part number off that website matches one in their computer, but it's on a different clutch made by a different company, so I ask him what gives and he tells me www.partsamerica.com is an affiliate, but not actually advance auto and that they can't get everything off that site so even though thats what pops up when you click on the advance auto online cataloge, they can't get that particular clutch I want. Nice!, well, I'm going to order straight from partsamerica and be done with it.

I read your thoughts on the damp organic clutch material, and I think I have it figgured out now. They make brake pads from peanuts, and must be able to do the same to make clutches.
