OT: Truck Shock Question

96 Dodge Ram 4x4, long bed. Got ran off the road couple weeks ago. Hit pretty hard underside right front. Got everything realigned, no damage seen. Now the right rear corner rides 3" lower than the left rear. I know shocks primary job is to keep the tire in contact with the road. Looked at leaf springs, brackets, knuckles, etc for damage. Can't see any. I'm sure the shock supports some of the bed weight, can the shock have been compressed so violently that is would not extend all the way out, leaving it lower? Any help appreciated.
