Earl S. Thanks for the info. You are the second person to recommend this. The holes are on the exterior bottom of the block. I am going to try a new product called Magnum Steel. It's a putty with hardener that is supposed to be as hard as steel. A small package was $5. A John Deere dealer recommended it. The package claims that I can drill, tap or machine it in one hour. What do you think? Harold R
