This week in the local paper (Syracuse) there was an article about a local farmer in your situation who was the first in the area to take advantage of a new program that has the state pay him development rights for his land. He gets the difference between the value of his land for agriculture and the higher cost a developer would pay. Now his land can never be developed. He can sell it, but only for farming. This has been done a lot on Long Island. The article said there were similar programs in other states. You might want to check into this. Don't get mad, get even.
