I thought the same thing when I got my 2000 Dakota quad(crew)cab with the "huge" 5 ft box. As it turns out the little box only was too short one time in 5 years use. Has been a great little go-fer pickup/car. The thing manuvers and parks like a car. I did not realize how much difference the short wheel base means untill I tried to drive my full size ex cab Chevy with 8 ft box in the same places. Wow, like trying to park an oil tanker without tugs.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
