You know what I've noticed in my area? We don't get much snow so when we do it really slows us down. When we slow down all of a sudden we are more friendly. I've noticed that drivers will wave a friendly hello when vehicles meet, people out in their yards will wave at passerbys, etc. The only way I can figure it is that it slows us down to the point of us seeing each other as just "folks" and not road competitors. The reason we are in such a hurry is we want more "stuff." Our generation has more time saving gadgets than any generation. So, what did we do with them? We used them so we could fill our day with more running. I've never heard a man on his death bed say "I wish I'd worked more and spent more time away from my family." I'm just as guilty about rushing but as I get older I'm going to slow down.I'm realizing that time is more precious and has more good memories than material things. You are right on in your assessment.
