I did this a few years ago on an "81 GMC that I had, but, my problem was a broken valve spring.
What I did was use the air adapter like others have said, but, I took all the spark plugs out, then turned on the air, and removed/replaced the broken spring real easy.
My thinking was that the plugs out would help By allowing more air volume on the back side (face) of the valve----don"t know if it made any difference, but, it was a pretty easy job, as I recall.
