Howdy, Not familiar with the IH planters but if they"re older 4 row planters they would be good. Since it"s a hobby farm you probably don"t want to bust out big bucks, right? I use a JD 494A here to plant my corn. That or a 1240 JD would do for you. That or one of the other IH 4 row planters or probably any brand for that matter would work. Getting the right plates is your biggest concern as far as all the switching from crop to crop goes. Also, these planters can be found at a pretty good price. I bought a good 494A for 300.00 last year. Also, at a sale near Columbus, the place was full of 4 and 6 row corn planters so I"m sure price would have been good. Hope this helps.
