Run the engine at a high idle (100 RPMs or so) until the engine comes up to temp. Then, vary the throttle from idle to full rev a few seconds on each stage while sitting still for about 20 minutes or so. Shut it down, re-set the valves if needed, and tighten the head bolts back up. Then, after it cools down, start it up again, high idle until the engine is warmed up, then take it out for a drive. Vary the RPMs and after 10 minutes or so put it in high gear and apply the brakes a bit to "lug" the engine - not excessively, but for a few minutes. After driving around for about 30 minutes, shut it down, change the oil and filter, and you are good to go if no leaks or unusual noises. Good luck, Dan PS - I coat my piston sleeves with WD-40 for initial start up - not regular motor oil. Not everybody will agree with this, but my mechanic swears it seats rings fast and I have had good success with doing this.
