If, in fact, you are running Windows NTv4.0 (which would be about all that you could install with only 96MB of RAM) you would want to upgrade to (at least) SP 6a. The problem is that Microsoft no longer "officially" supports Windows NTv4.0.

You have a sufficient processor (at 1.79GHz) for a higher OS level (i.e. Windows XP or Windows 2000) but you will NEED to increase your system RAM... I'd recommend an absolute minimum of 256MB, but 1GB would be MUCH better.
Upgrade the memory, then the OS. The memory upgrade will be relatively inexpensive. The OS upgrade, on the other hand, may not be...
