Running a 12 volt positive jumper direct from the battery should tell you if the PTO is engaging. I was able to test mine that way. However, make certain that it will engage again once you remove the 12 volt supply. I think they overheat, and have difficulty energizing again. I'm having PTO troubles myself. I took one off a 782 and will put it on an 1810 tomorrow. The 1810 PTO seemed to be overheating after a few minutes of use.
