This may sound stupid, but i"ve done it before on our 430 Diesel. Did you by chance kick the hand clutch into neutral with your foot as you were backing up? This would make it seem that the tranny went out.
I did this 2 weeks ago and thought at first that I was going to be in for a new tranny! Felt dumb when I discovered what happened. Jeff
