The '64 4000 is basically the same as an 801. It has three reservoirs: transmission, hydraulics and differential. (If you have a row crop, it also has reservoirs for the two final drives.)

The original recommendation was to use hydraulic fluid in the hydraulic reservoir, and 90 wt gear oil in the transmission and differential. Problem is, the gear oil can get past the seals and contaminate the hydraulic fluid. So the current recommendation is to use New Holland 134 hydraulic oil in all three reservoirs. So drain them all out and refill with 134.

The transmission is filled from the top (right by the gear shift lever), and has a level plug in the side (I forget which side).

The transmission reservoir is filled from a plug under the seat. There is a dip stick on the left hand side of the tractor.

The differential is filled from a plug behind the seat. There is a level plug on (I think) the left hand side of the differential.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding the three drain plugs under the tractor. Just be sure and drain/refill all three reservoirs.
