If dist has vacuum advance on it you can try applying vac and unhooking hose couple times ,,,if bad wire in pickup coil this will usually find it . Seen lot of rotors burned through on these also , but usually not that intermittant. One other thing is make sure your not losing power to dist power supply . Connections , connections ,connections !! From batt to starter , grounds , and sometimes junction block on firewall .
