Here are few reasons for the Ford N tractors that may carry more validity for you. Apply these to other old tractors if you wish. - There has been some discussion as to whether the axle trumpets are strong enough to support a ROPS in a rollover. I've seen pictures of castings that broke in a rollover. In this situation trust in a ROPS is misplaced. - ROPS require a seatbelt. Because of their design N series tractor seats are poor candidates for a seatbelt. - ROPS significantly raise the total height of a tractor. N series tractors are small profile allowing them to get in and work under limbs, thru smaller barn doors and such. ROPS are good to have on the right tractor doing the right job. On some tractors they may foster misplaced confidence. Knowing how to safely operate your particular tractor is more important than ROPS.
