When setting up a moldboard plow, the main frame of the plow must be plumb level with the ground front to back and side to side when the tractor is pulling it in the ground. Only then do you start to set the discs and skims. On a plow with a furrow width of 12" don't go deeper than 8",the furrow turned will not lay over flat enough if its too deep , it will only lay it on its side. All this is the same for trailed or mounted plows. On the mounted plows the top link needs to be streight in line with the centre line of the tractor when its in the ground,if this is not the case then the wheel widths of the tractor may want adjusting. If a plow has been under a tree root or a rock and slightly pulled one furrow out of line it will never be any good, strip it for spares and ditch the frame.
