Tractor making strange noise

I have a 1977 John Deere 2440 with a 146 from end loader. The tractor is making a groaning noise when the engine is started. If you raise the RPMs the noise goes away or if the tractor idles for several minutes the noise gets less. I think it has something to do with the hydraulic system, but everything works fine. The loader works fine, implements raise and lower just fine, and steering is fine. I keep the hydraulic fluid full and changed. Does anybody have any ideas what is might be and how I can solve the problem?
