If you are retarding the spark and it is still hard to start and the mag is putting out a good
spark, the problem could be in the fuel pump.
A few years back I had the same problem, and
finally came to the conclussion that the diaphram
in the fuel pump was bad. Good luck finding a
diaphram for it. I made a diaphram from a plastic
purex jug. It works just fine and solved my problem. Might give it a try if fuel is the problem.
