Many older combines used 26" tires. If it were me, I would visit a good salvage yard. You may find a nice set that has a lot of years left in them. I think our 80 Massey had 14x26 tires. I'm not sure what brand tire store you checked, but a few years back I got a $150 quote from a Firestone shop for a 10x36 tire. I didn't think that was too bad. I haven't checked lately though.
