O.T.--Hurricane Dennis Report

Dennis hit us directly last Sunday afternoon. It was strange seeing the storm hit during the day. House & family OK. Another limb through the roof. We ran the generator all week to keep freezers & fridges running and a few fans to ward off the heat. Power restored Thursday night. Many more oaks & pines down on the property and one large oak landed squarely on our old Ford diesel--my first tractor. (A close-up photo is posted on the stuck & troubled page.) We had prepared for a southeast wind based on the tract projections all day Saturday & Sunday morning but the storm turned north during the last hour before landfall and we got northeast winds during the first half (before the eye passed over) and then southwest winds after the eye. We saw the tree come down--in an instant, during one of those 135 mph gusts....
