If it is like the 230 I had....Every now and then I woild have the lifters collapse. Like if I was stuck in mud and over reved the engine. Would take some time for it to smooth back out. I think it was caused by the oil pump picking up air. First time I did it, though I'd blown the engine. Ran it for years though.
Soumds like same thing...low oil or pump pickup bouncing up?
