I own an old 5 Ft. 3 pt. Rotary Mower that has a bad oil seal. I have no idea who manufactured this mower. Before I use it, I refill it with gear oil. From reading the boards hear I know that some people wouldn't even bother with the oil seal - filling up the gear box with heavy grease. I usually try to fix things properly when I can, however. I noticed that the leak got significantly worse this year and I finally got motivated enough to disassemble the unit to replace the oil seal. But when I tried to take the heavy metal mounting plate that the two blades swing from, I noticed that it was held in place with some kind of splined fastener, not a bolt. It looks like I need a special socket tool to remove the plate and get to the oil seal. Are all rotary mowers made like this? Any thoughts on where I can get the proper tool to remove the plate? thanks, BeefEater
