How about glowing carbon deposits. Suppose you have some hot carbon in the combustion chamber.....beins these guys used to run on leaded fuel and there were lots of deposits then. So if one is a glowing (which they did....do) and you come up on the compression stroke with a cylinder full of fuel air mix and it gets squeezed as you get near the top that extra heat may be enough to set her off.....right before the spark plug is supposed to do it.

Otherwise I dunno.
