The book says to fill up to the filler plug with the levers all the way back so the cyls. are full of oil when checked, Can't remember how much it holds, about 3 qts. I think, I've used non-det 30wt for 20 years in mine. A det. oil foams & cavitates. On mine, at least 3 times ( It's happening now in fact) the little o-ring seal in the pump will go out, and higher pressure hyd. system oil will force it's way into the crankcase. When that happens, I usually just keep draining my oil pan down to correct level, and adding fresh 30 wt to the hydraulics, until the mowing season is over, then replace pump seals unless it gets too bad. (this is the reason they used to recommend using the same oil in the hydraulics as you use in the engine)....DDG
