I had a hairy experience tonight as well,... I went to borrow the neighbor's swather for our oats. He has it on a realy heavy trailer he pull around w/ a tractor, w/ about an 8' Beaver tail on it, run off the tractor's hydraulics. To unhook the trailer in his shed, he backed it right over the axel to take the weight off the hitch. I pulled it out, and wasn't going to go down the road like this, so I started it up on the trailer to pull it ahead some. I was on a SLIGHT incline, Beaver tail up, when the engine stalled out. I rolled right back off the trailer, landing hard on the rear axel then on front axel/ header hitting the beaver. It was about a 3 1/2-4' drop off.... Luckily, nothing was damaged. I couldn't get it started so I went in the barn by him and told him what happened, he didn't seem extroardinarily concerned about the machine as it's older than the hills. He came out, turns out I didn't have the speed selector lever pulled back far enough to engage the safety switch. I fired it right up, and put it back on the trailer for me. I managed to get some cut tonight, and she stills works just fine. This is an old JD 800 w/ a 12' head on it. Donovan from Wisconsin P.S.... I'm still cleaning out my drawer's!

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
